Sonar hydrophone course
This one day course aims to give basic competence in selecting and using hydrophones for making underwater acoustic measurements in the sub-MHz frequency range.
The emphasis is on practical skills and approximately 50% of the time will be spent in the measurement laboratory. The maximum number of delegates is four, giving plenty of opportunity to develop “hands-on” skills. Laboratory work will focus on planar, cylindrical and spherical hydrophones for sonar applications.

Lectures are reinforced by practical, hands-on sessions using large water baths. In addition to providing a good theoretical and practical foundation to ultrasound measurement, the course illustrates some of the problems the user may encounter in their work, and shows how to solve them. I for one, had never appreciated that the axis of emission for peak intensity of the ultrasound output may not be perpendicular to the emission face!”
